Day 25

Yes, I am very VERY impatient! I am going to sit back, relax, and try not to think of my exercise as such an important thing and just as a feel good activity to help my back heal. I'm getting too ahead of myself. I have the thought in my head from calorie website; "you could be 120lbs by September 28th" well, that date is going further into the future since I'm not loosing 1 to 2 pounds a week! I know I've only strengthened my muscles and haven't lost anything. But why? I hear other people loose 1 to 2 pounds a week, while I sit at a stand still! *sigh* I hope in time I will start loosing weight, I'm not giving up!

  1. I have been in your exact shoes and know exactly how you feel. you will start losing weight, you just can't watch the pot (a watched pot never boils), but most importantly, don't compare yourself to others.

Everyone is different, everyone's metabolism is different. You are getting really ahead of yourself, and I feel you (I have been there so many times!). People that are larger than you will lose more weight faster than you, because there is more to lose and their metabolism is structured differently. Pilates and yoga are not meant to put you in the "fat burning" zone, so that could be why also (they are not considered aerobic activities--it's primarily strengthening/toning and lengthening).

There are so many factors that go into why you might not be losing on the scale, and 2 of them could possibly be your health risk factors (your blood sugar issues, and back problems). Don't cut calories again (it obviously affects your health), and I would suggest against taking any kind of diet pill, especially if you are taking pain pills for your back. You can do a serious number on your liver, and it could also affect your blood sugar levels and affect your health in the future--you wont see those side affects now. Just focus on healing your back.

It will happen for you, just try not to focus on it too much (I know it's hard). After your metabolism regulates itself, you will start seeing a loss. Just give it more time. I have only lost 3 lbs since I started this, but have lost a lot of inches (over an inch on each leg just in the last 2 weeks or so). Just be consistent and don't stop. Worst case, September will be here before you know it. It's already almost mid Feb! :). If you have to do it consistently until Sept, it's the only time in your life that you will have to work this hard, ya know? The rest will be maintenance work. If you stop because you're frustrated, you will just have to start over again, and that will REALLY be frustrating then, especially if you think "what would i look like if i had continued to exercise before" (i have done this so many times and it sucks!) :).

You're doing fine, and you are also being a really good role model to your kids. They will take your example to heart, and probably exercise when they get older, cause they saw their mom doing it! That's awesome! If you obsess over your weight and eating habits, they will learn to do the same (we learn how to be adults primarily from our parents), especially your daughter (you are her primary role model because you are both female).

I truly meant it when I suggested putting your scale away (out of sight, out of mind), but if you must, weight yourself on day 40, and you will probably see a difference. If you keep weighing yourself like you are, you are going to set yourself up for failure and frustration. Try to hold out until then, so that you don't drive yourself crazy in the meanwhile :) (I know how hard it is, I really, really do).

Sorry for the long message, but I really know how you feel, and want to be able to help you get through this. I have been in your shoes so many times, and wasn't able to figure out how to get passed it until now (and I'm 31!).

Don't give up, you're doing great! You're doing a lot more and a lot better than a lot of other Americans out there :). Most of them sit on their butts all day and eat Cheetos :). You are a star!

  2. Awww, that was so nice of you to say! My mom told me about a guy at her work that weighed over 300lbs, and he lost weight and is really skinny now. He told my mom it took him quit a while to start loosing weight, and almost a year to actually see it. He was a lot bigger than I am, but he didn't "diet" he started out cutting back his portions and walking for as long as he could, then slowly kept walking longer and taking away more food from his portions and adding better foods. It took him 3 years and now he's really skinny. I haven't measured myself since January 25th. I was thinking of taking my measurments again on February 25th to see if anything has changed. I also thought about quiting the diet pills. I don't want to damage my liver. I usually take Motrin for my back pain. If it doesn't hurt that bad then I use an ice pack only. I don't take the pain pills a lot, I hate taking medicine. I started the areobics, 3 days a week for now. This weekend I'm going to get my sisters treadmill over to my house, she's giving it to me but we haven't gotton it over here yet. I want to walk on that for at least 30min a day along with my other exercises. Well, I'm going to go pull the scale out of my bathroom and hide it somewhere! :O)
