Day 37
My day 37 was actually yesterday. I did my aerobics but not my treadmill. I am now sick and have a real bad headache. I am going to hold off on exercise so I can get better. Plus I'll be packing to move things to my new house (YAY!) so I need to make sure I'm getting enough rest. I read a article on yahoo about exercising too much. You wont see results and can actually loose results you have gained if you exercise too much and don't let your body rest. The more you exercise, the more rest you need. They said to get at least 1 full day of rest. With that said, It'll probably be a week or two before I blog again. I hope everyone else has a great workout and keep up the good work. I'm not quitting!! I'll start up again before you know it!

rest days are extremely important for muscle recovery when weight training. There are different forms of exercise, and so depending on the form of exercise requires different rest periods (during your actual workout, as well as rest days).
ReplyDeleteCardiovascular exercise (aerobics) is for the heart, and isn't meant to create muscle mass, so resting isn't necessary (according to ACE and ACSM). The FDA suggests 30 minutes of moderate cardiovascular exercise on most days (The ACSM gives the FDA their info). Another way to rest, if you want to exercise on a designated rest day (like I do), is to lower your intensity. Yoga, Pilates, and core work are perfect to do on rest days and wont hinder any results or set you back. Even a low intensity/low impact aerobic activity wont set you back.
You are sick though, so your body probably hurts, feels achy and needs some TLC. For me, when I am sick and exercise, it hurts my lungs and makes me hack. I hate when it hurts to breathe and I hate coughing, especially when my throat hurts!
Sorry you aren't feeling better yet! Hopefully you will soon! :)
You might really enjoy taking some kinesiology classes. That is where I learned most of the info I am going off of :). I took them when I was studying to be an ACE certified trainer (you might enjoy doing that also!).
